It looks like Zimbabwe Cricket has come to a near standstill ahead of Friday's 1st ODI against West Indies. This weeks National League matches included Kadoma Sports Club vs Takashinga, and Harare Sports Club vs Bulawayo Athletic Club.

155. Zimbabwe def. Sth Afr Composite XI by 10 wickets
Before we go into the cricket, a special mention must be made of Ian Smith. In his own words, he was an "absolute lunatic about sport". Being Rhodesian, surely we must assume that that included cricket. RIP Ian Smith, the last Rhodesian prime minister, who passed away in Cape Town on Tuesday, November 20, 2007.

156. Zimbabwe to take on South African domestic team
As part of their preparation to return to Test cricket, and also a warm up for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies, Zimbabwe are going to play a 4-day First Class match against a South African franchise team - who, has not yet been decided. The game will be played at the ground in Benoni.

157. Zimbabwe Provinces vs Northerns
SAA One Dayer: Zimbabwe Provinces defeated Northerns thanks to an 85 run knock from Tino Mawoyo and an unbeaten 63 from Hamilton Masakadza. In his return in Zimbabwean colours, Ray Price showed his class with 4/48. Zimbabwe Provinces won by 21 runs.

158. Vermeulen allowed to leave Harare
Harare magistrate, William Bhila, has relaxed one of Mark Vermeulen's bail conditions, allowing the batsman to leave the Harare metropolitan area to play cricket matches. Vermeulen admitted to burning down two buildings owned by Zimbabwe Cricket, and was not allowed to travel outside a 40 km radius of Harare city.

159. West Indies coach showing contempt for Zimbabwe
New West Indies coach, John Dyson, will not accompany his team as they embark on a tour of Zimbabwe later this month. He was also absent from the teams first training session ahead of the 5 match tour.

160. 2007-08 National League update
The National League has taken a new direction, seemingly as of November 10 and 11. To prepare its players for resumption of Test matches, Zimbabwe Cricket has taken the initiative to reformat its National League matches. Instead of being a limited overs match (50 overs, it used to be) the games now extend over two days - Saturday and Sunday, and teams can play up to 2 innings.

161. Ray Price set to return for Zimbabwe
Ray Price, nephew of champion golfer Nick Price, is set to make an international comeback later this month. Zimbabwe take on the West Indies, and Ray Price has been offered a contract for the series by Zimbabwe Cricket. Price's last outing for Zimbabwe was against Bangladesh at Harare in 2004, when he took 2/38.

162. Brendan Taylor to become Zim's 7th highest ODI run scorer
Brendan Taylor will almost certainly become Zimbabwe's seventh highest run scorer in one day internationals at the closure of the upcoming five match series against the West Indies. Currently, Taylor is the country's ninth highest run scorer, ahead of Neil Johnson (10) and Tatenda Taibu (11).

Ryan Butterworth has finally been selected to represent Zimbabwe, after many years of impressive domestic performances. In 2006-07, he was named the National League player of the year, the top award for club cricketers.

164. Taylor stars in Zimbabwe defeat
Poor bowling cost Zimbabwe an otherwise likely victory in the first 50-over match against Sri Lanka A at Bulawayo. Brendan Taylor top scored for Zimbabwe with 50, while proving his allround class with a stumping.

165. Zimbabwe to play in the SuperSport series
Zimbabwe will be fielding a side in South Africa's top domestic competition, the SuperSport series. This is an important step for Zimbabwe, in their goal of resuming Test match cricket. Zimbabwe Cricket managing director, Ozias Bvute, said "... after the acquisition of Test status, this ranks as the next landmark for Zimbabwe cricket".

166. O.H. captain, Mark Vermeulen, breaches bail conditions
Former Test cricketer, Mark Vermeulen, breached one of his bail conditions when he was seen at Harare Sports Club during the First Class cricket match between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka A. Vermeulen is accused of setting fire to the Harare Sports Club boardroom, as well as causing millions of dollars of damage to the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy at the Country Club just outside of Harare. One of Vermeulen's bail conditions was that he doesn't enter the Harare Sports Club premises.

167. Taylor interview with Zimbabwe Independent
Earlier this week, Zimbabwean newspaper, the Zimbabwe Independent, interviewed Brendan Taylor. The focus was on his two heroics, the last ball 6 against Bangladesh and his 60* against Australia. Thanks to maehara at zimcricketnews.com for posting the article, I may not have seen it otherwise.

168. Taylor smashes 30 on Day 2
Brendan Taylor put on a 91 run stand with Vusi Sibanda on Day 2 of the First Class match against Sri Lanka A. Taylor made 30 before being dismissed, while Sibanda added 55. At stumps, Zimbabwe are 6/203. Tatenda Taibu replaced Brendan Taylor behind the stumps in the first 4-day match against Sri Lanka A. A strange decision by whoever was behind it considering his success as wicket keeper in the ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa.

172. Sri Lanka A squad announced
The Sri Lankan cricket board has announced their fifteen man squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka's "A" team will play the Zimbabwean first eleven in two First Class four-day matches, and three one day matches to be awarded List A status.

Sri Lanka have warned the hosts that they will be fielding the strongest A side possible for their 5 match tour of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe's new coach, Robin Brown, is confident the team can continue the good run of form that has extended through the recent South Africa tour of Zimbabwe and the ICC World Twenty20.

175. Masakadza injured for Sri Lanka A tour
Hamilton Masakadza, one of Zimbabwe's stars in the recently played ICC World Twenty20, has injured his finger at a training session ahead of Sri Lanka A's upcoming tour. The top order batsman tore the ligament in his finger, and will be out of action for at least 6 weeks. He hopes to recover ahead of West Indies tour consisting of 3 ODI's later this year, although doctors say chances of that are still 50-50.

176. Woes for Zimbabwe team sponsors
On Wednesday September 26, legislation was pushed through Zimbabwe parliament which will see Zimbabweans have a 51% stake in foreign owned firms. The so called "empowerment bill" has created a sense of uncertainty among many foreign owned firms, including those in the business and mining sector.

The Harare Metropolitan League got underway last Saturday with several practise matches. The three matches were Old Hararians vs Old Malvernians, Royal Cricket Club vs Harare Sports Club and Millennium vs Glenshire.
