2. Brendan Taylor axed from Zimbabwe squad
Zimbabwe Cricket have announced their contracted players, 44 in total, for the 2008-09 season, with Brendan Taylor the only absense. Despite regular run-ins with authority, Brendan Taylor was one of the few players who, for all intents and purposes, did stand by the board through the troubled times, particularly between 2003 and 2005.

3. Zimbabwe Select squad named
Zimbabwe's squad to take on the Pakistani cricket academy has been named, and without any big names. The only ODI capped players in the squad are spin bowlers Tafadzwa Kamungozi and Timycen Maruma, as well as top order batsman Friday Kasteni. The three players have only 9 ODI's experience between them. Regis Chakabva and Taurai Muzarabani will be vital players, having represented Zimbabwe in South Africa's domestic competitions.

5. Zimbabwe withdraw from World Twenty20
Over the past week there have been so many murmurs and rumours about Zimbabwe's playing future, it was pointless trying to keep up with them all. Over the past few days, the ICC have been discussing many issues, one of which was Zimbabwe. As it turned out, Zimbabwe's full membership was not even discussed, which is a fair call. On playing standards, Zimbabwe have demonstrated clear progress in the past 12 months, and any move to isolate the country because of their political situation would be highly hypocritical of the ICC, considering the situations in Sri Lanka and Pakistan are awful as well.

8. International futures of Taylor and Chigumbura hang in the balance
Last week, it came to light that Taylor had come close to quitting Zimbabwe Cricket last month, with cricket clubs in England and the Netherlands both wanting his service. While that crisis was averted, and Taylor played in the Logan Cup, with the domestic season now officially over, Taylor again wants to leave for Europe.

The series deciding match was, fittingly, the final game of the 2007-08 Faithwear one-day series between Northerns and Easterns. Both on 2 wins, with Centrals and Westerns having already played their final game, the winner of the clash would be crowned the champions.

10. Hove return cannot save Southerns
Former Zimbabwe A batsman Tinashe Hove made his domestic return this week at the Country Club, after having not played any league cricket since the semi final of the National League for Bulawayo Athletic Club, after which he was controversially dropped. Turning his back on Bulawayo, Hove moved to Harare where he has been reported to have been playing club cricket.

11. Cremer, Muzarabani star as the Faithwear series gets underway
Northerns, the former Mashonaland outfit, have had mixed success thus far in the 2007-08 edition of the Faithwear Clothing Inter-Provincial One-Day Competition. Resting their key players for the first match, Brendan Taylor, Raymond Price and Elton Chigumbura all watched on as Northerns suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of a poor Westerns outfit, who had won none of their Logan Cup matches.

14. Taylor propels Northerns to series win
Northerns have won the 2007-08 Logan Cup, the 107th edition, with an innings victory over Centrals. Zimbabwe national team star Brendan Taylor and domestic newcomer Ishmael Senzere each scored first innings centuries to take Northerns to an imposing lead of 493.

The Halifax Courier reports that former Zimbabwe under-19 star Ian Nicolson has been the cause of a complaint made to the local Towergate Halifax League in England. Nicolson has been said to be "too good" for the English league.

The Australian based The Age newspaper last month published a misleading article about Tatenda Taibu's intentions of moving to Australia. There are many discrepancies in the article, and recent evidence shows that Taibu does not have any intentions at this time to move to Melbourne.

A 58 run partnership between Brendan Taylor and Chamu Chibhabha saved Zimbabwe from humiliation against the Dolphins in the Chevrons latest Standard Bank Pro20 match. While it wasn't enough to save the team from defeat, it did get them within 4 balls of an upset.

The Easterns controversial win in the Metropolitan Bank Twenty20 tournament is the talk of the Zimbabwe cricket community, with Steven Price at Cricinfo suggesting that the Easterns have been given the best players in order to persuade the public to think that there is player depth and strength outside of Harare and Bulawayo.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Twenty20 tournament has been taking place this week. Teams are playing up to two matches every day, the first beginning at 9AM local, and the second at 2PM local, the games split between the Country Club (Zimbabwe Cricket Academy ground) and Harare Sports Club.

Playing for Pretoria High School Old Boys in the South African Northern Premiers League, Charles Coventry broke all sorts of records during his 320 run knock. It is the Zimbabwean batsman's first triple century in any form of cricket.

All the excitement of the Logan Cup is returning for 2008, and this year promises more action than ever. Zimbabwe's national team players are expected to be available for at least the first round of the competition, meaning potentially the highest quality competition since the early 2000's.

Hamilton Masakadza paved the way for Zimbabwe's third MTN championship victory with a magnificent allround performance against the Bizhub Lions at Harare Sports Club. Currently in this tournament, Zimbabwe have won every match they have played in Harare, and lost every match they have played elsewhere, including Bulawayo.
