Utseya, Prosper

Major Teams Represented: Zimbabwe, Easterns, Old Hararians, Takashinga
Born: 1985

ODI Shirt Number: #52

Prosper Utseya is the best spin bowler in Zimbabwe, and is the national cricket captain, after taking over from Terrence Duffin in 2006. Under Utseya, the national team has had its most success in recent times, including a series whitewash of Canada and Bermuda, a series win over Bangladesh and a Twenty20 victory over world champions Australia. Utseya is not a wicket taker, but is extremely economical, which has seen many rate him alongside Tatenda Taibu as a world class player. I think if he can lower his ODI average, currently over 50, then he would be truly world class. He is a reliable lower order batsman - he scored 45 on his Test debut, just 5 runs away from an elite club include Terry Duffin, of Zimbabweans scoring 50's on Test debut. He represented both Old Hararians and Takashinga in 2007-08. He is the cousin of fellow national team player Stuart Matsikenyeri.
