Exclusive: Vigne Cup week 1 round-up

Reports direct from Zimbabwe for this weeks Harare Metropolitan Vigne Cup matches, week 1 of the competition (September 13, 14).

The season got off to a low start as no umpires were present to officiate some matches.

Uprising vs Takashinga 1

Uprising won the toss and elected to bat first and they managed to score a paltry 195 runs all out after 31.1 overs. Blessing Mafuva top scored for Uprising with 51 runs and got some help from John Hassan who finished the match unbeaten on 39. There was also some contribution from the captain Robertson Chinyengetere who chipped in with 22 runs. Innocent Chinyoka also scored 23 runs.

In reply Takashinga 1 were bolwed out for a mere 73 runs. There was good bowling from the Uprising. Chinyoka took 4 wickets for 4 runs from 7 overs. Robertson Chinyengetere was the pick of the bowlers and took 5 for 19 in 6 overs.

In the end Uprising won by 122 runs.

Harare Sports Club vs Royals

Match did not take place as Harare Sports Club failed to field a team, so the match was a awarded to Royals.

Uprising 2 vs Centurions

Uprising 2 won the toss and elected to bat. Posted a total of 271 for the loss of 10 wickets in 35.6 overs.

P. Zimwa scored 51 from 51 balls. P. Zimwa is a Prince Edward schoolboy. E. Daniels, another PE schoolboy, top scored with 66 runs from 37 balls. The captain of the day J. Madyembwa also made some contribution as he scored 64 runs from 38 balls.

In reply Centurions were bowled out for a paltry 187 in 47.3 overs. Only T. Hwezha offered some resistance as he top scored for the visitors with 58 runs.
