New structure for Logan Cup "B" competition

The Zimbabwe Independent and zimcricketnews.com reported yesterday that the Logan Cup "B" competition has been reformatted, with Green, Gold and Red contesting the trophy instead of Northerns B, Southerns B, Westerns B, Centrals B and Easterns B.

The three new teams will be drawn from the various provinces in the following way:

Red: Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Manicaland and Harare Metropolitan
Green: Midlands, Mashonaland West and Masvingo
Gold: Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo Metropolitan

Each team will play 2 three day matches, one against each of the opposition sides. The team with the most points after their matches will win the competition.

The players have been drawn from the various club cricket competitions around the country, although there are some First Class players participating.

Green: Adam Tom, George Banda, Tinashe Chaeruka, Maxine Chamburuka, Steven Chimhamiwa, Pepukai Chisaka, Tendai Chitongo, Ronnie Makohwera, Arnold Marambo, Alex Mavhiko, Shepard Muradza, Richard Muzhange, Glynn Nyamauta and Elvis Vheremu, Johannes Matigonda (coach)
Gold: Lloyd Chikari, Atish Chouhan, Vincent Dururu, Dennis Gunda, Brian Hubbard, Paul Kasonde, Washington Kuripa, Taurai Madhiri, Dumisani Makunzini, Mike Mhlanga, Kendrick Moyo, Sydwell Ndlovu, Tafadzwa Ngulube and Khawulani Ntuli, Stanley Timoni (coach)
Red: Tonderai Bwana, Peter Fani, Clayton Gova, Douglas Jumbe, Benjamin Katsande, Panashe Malianga, Tendayi Matemayi, Samuel Mhone, Sadon Mukumira, Tendai Shereni, Clement Rizhibowa, Basail Sanilac, Willard Stenala and Donald Tiripano, Sylvester Mutusva (coach)

Gold goes into the competition as favorites, boasting the dangerous Westerns fast bowler Khawulani Ntuli, talented wicket keeper Tafadzwa Ngulube, as well as offspinner Kendrick Moyo.

The star player for Green is Adam Tom, the Mbizo batsman who was selected in the Zimbabwe A squad against Bangladesh A in 2006. He had a good season in the Midlands Provincial League, earning a top score of 69 against Amaveni. They will also be boosted by the inclusion of specialist bowler Alexander Mavhiko, who played in this seasons National League and took 4/66 against Harare Sports Club.

Red will be pleased to have the services of Tendai Sherini, the talented Mabvuku allrounder who struck an unbeaten 97 against Takashinga in the Vigne Cup, followed by 59 and 4/21 against Glenshire.

The first match is on Wednesday the 9th, between Red and Green. On Sunday the 13th, Green will play Gold, while Gold and Red meet on Thursday the 17th.
