Sean Williams confirmed starter for Westerns

After losing skipper Keith Dabengwa for one match due to back pain and news that Test star Mark Vermeulen will miss this round due to a finger injury, Westerns have finally received some good news. Sean Williams has confirmed that he will play for Westerns.

Sunday News broke the story, saying that Williams has indeed made himself available for selection after speculation last week that he would. 22 year old Williams is considered the best First Class player in the country, maintaining an average in the 40's over his 17 First Class matches. His highest Logan Cup score is 129.

Williams has reportedly been in South Africa, and his return will boost a Westerns outfit yet to score a win. Opener Freedom Takarusenga is the only Westerns player so far this season to record a First Class half-century, scoring a career high 65 not out in the last round against Centrals.

Takarusenga and Tafadzwa Ngulube are the likely opening batsmen, while Sean Williams should bat at number three - the position he has enjoyed success in for Zimbabwe in ODI's. He will replace the injured Vermeulen. Dabengwa will also return, probably in the place of 23 year old Taurai Madhiri.

Yet to feature this season for Westerns is 18 year old Matthew Williams, who scored 30 on his First Class debut in 2007.

Westerns will take on Easterns at Old Hararians, while Northerns have a showdown with Centrals at Alexandra Sports Club. Both matches start this Tuesday (April 21).

Westerns XI (possible): F Takarusenga, T Ngulube, S Williams, C Coventry (wk), K Dabengwa (c), M Mabuza, R Kasawaya, T Mupariwa, J Nyumbu, C Mpofu, N Ncube
