Abid Hamid, a regular match referee in domestic cricket, sadly passed away on March 29. Last weekend he reportedly felt unwell while playing for Old Hararians in the second division of the Vigne Cup. He died late on Sunday in hospital in Harare.

Born in Chipinge on the 9th of June, 1957, he was 51.

Hamid played a variety of roles in Zimbabwean cricket. Besides playing, he umpired and he was team manager for Mashonaland and Zimbabwe A, and more recently Zimbabwe U-19's. He was also the serving chairman of the Old Hararians club, board member of Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association, selector for Northerns, and a coach at Ridgeview Primary School. This is a very sad loss for Zimbabwe cricket, Abi Hamid was a very passionate supporter of cricket in Zimbabwe. My thoughts are with his wife and son.
