Exclusive: Bulawayo Athletic Club on the road to recovery

A couple of years ago the Bulawayo Athletic Club facilities were badly affected by a fire (from an electrical fault), causing US$400,000 in damage.

brmtaylor.com has ascertained from BAC committee member Trefor Williams that progress has been slow but steady.

"We have rebuilt the roof covering the main bar and the snooker room area, and redesigned the old cocktail bar. It is our intention to rebuild the interior of the burnt out areas when we manage to get in sufficient funds".

As with any construction project in Zimbabwe at the moment - and not helped by the current global economic crisis - funds are hard to come by.

Luckily the cricket ground - the home ground of the National League semi-finalists Bulawayo Athletic Club - is in great condition. The ground was home to the first ever Test match played in Bulawayo.

"We have been lucky with the rains this year, and both the bowling section, with its bowling greens and luscious gardens, and the cricket field are in tip top condition. The main clubhouse is taking shape as well after we have redesigned it, with the new look being a lot more airy and I believe, more suited to having say 50 odd people in the bar area."
